One of the more size-friendly pieces in our collection - a genuine used and heavily worn Sherman supercharger impeller. This component would be located deep in the bowels of a Continental R-975 radial engine, powering the iconic Sherman tank. Technically, the supercharger was not used to compress air going into the engine, but to more evenly distribute the fuel and air mix going to the cylinders.
You may notice the impeller is looking a little worse for wear - that's because its bearings failed while the Sherman was driving. Pieces of the bearings were sent into the engine and had to be removed, but the engine was later repaired. This impeller, however, was no longer fit for purpose as it struck the inside of the supercharger housing at high speed, and is now more suitable as a display piece.
The particular tank this came from (featured in the images above) is iconic in its own right, having stared in Fury and Master of the Air. This piece would be perfect as a stand alone display or as part of a greater collection.
